Things to Beware of When You Choose a Pub with Rooms

7 June, 2019

Choosing a pub with rooms instead of a hotel comes with all sorts of advantages. You’ll be able to get a great meal when you’re there and enjoy a few drinks while knowing that your room is only a flight of stairs away. However, if you’re used to staying in large chain hotels with every modern convenience at your fingertips, there are a few things which you should probably be aware of before you select this option. This article isn’t designed to put you off. Indeed, you may see several of the things that we mention here as advantages that you will enjoy rather than warning factors! Nevertheless, it’s always good to be prepared, and we’re sure that you’ll feel a little bit more ready for your trip after you’ve read the information and advice that we have to share with you.

The first thing to know is that check-in times tend to be a little more restricted. If you’re going to be arriving at your destination late (after around 9 pm), then a pub with rooms may not be the right option for you. At the very least, be sure to phone before you make a booking to explain your circumstances, to avoid any unfortunate misunderstandings or disappointments.

Secondly, while there are pubs with rooms out there that offer fantastic facilities which can easily compete with four or five-star hotels, most of them tend to be a little more basic than this. While the vast majority of them now offer en suite facilities, there are a few that still have shared bathrooms. This will always be made clear on the hotel booking website you use and directories of pubs with rooms will generally highlight this. Once again though, it’s worth keeping an eye out for this to avoid any disappointment.

Finally, be prepared for a slightly more communal atmosphere than you would find in a hotel. This is generally a great thing. You’ll be highly encouraged to eat in the pub, (you may well find that dinner or breakfast may be included in the room rate), and you may make some great friend while you’re there. Many people choose pubs with rooms for this reason, and they are a great way to get to know a side of British culture that can otherwise be hard to get to grips with.
